The RoboRAVE National Youth Robotics Winter Camp and Competition was successfully held in BNUZ from February 5th to 11th. The event is jointly sponsored by the Youth International Competition and Exchange Center of China Education Association for International Exchange and BNUZ School of Engineering Technology.

After selection, hundreds of youth candidates from more than ten schools in Beijing, Shaanxi, Zhejiang and Yunnan entered into the semi-fimal. Representative teams of Beijing High School Affiliated to Renmin University, Haidian Foreign Language Shiyan School, Wenzhou No.4 Middle School, and the High School Affiliated to Xi’an Jiaotong University have kept great records in the first rounds of contests.

The task of this competition is Sample Recovery from Mars. The basic components were provided by the committee, which required to be used to design and install a robot. Then the robot should be able to move mineral samples according to specified routes. Under the supervision of professional teachers, students worked hard during the competition, and achieved great results through team work, diligent thinking and courage of innovation. The winner of first prize will have the chance to participate in the International Robot Competition of this summer in New Mexico of US. In addition, the committee also arranged trip visits to Zhuhai Mangrove Field and Macau Science and Technology Museum.

BNUZ’s vice president Prof. Wu Zhongkui, the previous vice president Prof. Yang Guochang, dean of School of Engineering Technology Prof. An Baosheng, the deputy director of Youth International Competition and Exchange Center affiliated to China Education Association for International Exchange Dr. Mao Yong, and the president of RoboRAVE International Robot Competition Mr. Russ Fisher-Ives who is also a professor in Intel inquiry-based learning, participated in the opening ceremony.

The success of holding this competition is another important step for the School of Engineering Technology in seeking collaborative innovation. Through introducing high quality educational resources both internationally and domestically, professional development of the school can be achieved, the teachers and students can have an international platform to study and perform, and the quality of cultivating applied talents can be improved. Apart from these, it also made contributions in developing the social reputation of the university.
