From Dec.20 to Dec. 23, the 2nd “Xinmao Cup” Cross-strait Quad-regional Invitational Debate was held successfully at BNUZ. This three-day event was hosted by BNUZ Youth League, co-organized by BNUZ debate team. 11 debate teams from Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia fighted for the champion. After the preliminaries, semi-finals and finals of the fierce battle, eventually Chinese University of Hong Kong won the champion, H.E.L.P. University College won the runner-up, BNUZ won the third prize. Student YAN Rujin from H.E.L.P. University College won the title of best debater in the finals.
This Debate is one of the great events in the Asia-Pacific Chinese debate circle. 11 great teams drew much attention and the judge line-up included many famous debaters and great celebrities. On Dec. 21, 2012, after the preliminaries, Chinese University of Hong Kong, H.E.L.P. University College, BNUZ and Macau University of Science and Technology entered the semi-finals. In the afternoon of Dec. 23, Chinese University of Hong Kong defeated H.E.L.P. University College with the final score of 11:10.After the debate, judge teams gave nice remarks on debate team’s performance and exchanged opinions on the debate topics.
In the closing remarks made by Prof. CHEN Guangju, the president of BNUZ, he said, the hosting of this event embodies BNUZ’s strategy to going out. It not only improves BNUZ debate team’s skills but further strength its cooperation with higher educational institutions in Taiwan, Hong Kong etc.
